With the beginning of the new school year, Cabell County Schools is announcing a change in the number of credits required for successful middle school promotion.

Sixth grade students entering middle school this fall will have new expectations for promotion to seventh grade. The new guidelines will require students to prove mastery of the content standards for six courses, with two of those credits earned in both math and language arts. Students who fail to receive the number of required credits will need to recover sufficient credits to meet the requirements.

Previously, students have been required to earn five credits out of a possible seven, with one of those being in either math or language arts. While these guidelines will continue for students in grades seven and eight, the new guidelines will roll into these grade levels as the current sixth grade students are promoted.
